American Lung Association, organization founded in 1904 to fight lung disease through education, community service, advocacy, and research. The organization's medical section is the American Thoracic Society, a professional society of more than 10,000 members. The American Lung Association chairs and serves as secretariat for the National Coalition to Eliminate Tuberculosis, a coalition of sixty-five organizations assembled to fight tuberculosis. The American Lung Association has local Lung Associations across the United States. National headquarters is in New York City.
